A fight is a two-person comparison, which sounds simpler than a team sport and is not. Stylistic fit dominates: a wrestler who has never lost a decision can be a live underdog against a striker with elite takedown defense, and a durable veteran can be priced as a favorite over a more talented fighter who has been finished twice. The inputs are striking output and absorption, accuracy and defense, takedown rate and takedown defense, submission attempts, finish rate and the durability that shows up as how a fighter’s losses ended. Around those sit the contextual factors — reach and stance, age, time since the last fight, a short-notice replacement, a move between weight classes — that explain much of the movement in a fight moneyline in the week before a card.
