Golf Analytics Blog

Golf guides for a sport where the favorite loses almost every week: strokes gained and which components persist, course fit and history as concepts to test, field strength, and how to read an outright market with a huge margin.

Guides

1 guide in this category, newest first. Each one is tied to the pages it refers to — the hub, the statistics section, the pick tracker — so the method can be tested on live tournaments rather than taken on trust.

What This Section Covers

A golf tournament is one event with a field of more than a hundred players, so the shape of the analysis is unlike a two-sided game. Even the strongest favorite in a strong field wins perhaps one week in six; the outright market carries far more margin than a moneyline; and a good week is often a single large result rather than a string of small ones. The guides here start by making those facts explicit before discussing any statistic.

Strokes gained is the statistic that reorganized the sport, and the guides explain it from the ground up: what the baseline is, how the off-the-tee, approach, around-the-green and putting components are separated, and why approach play persists from week to week while putting mostly does not. Course fit, course history and field strength follow, with honest notes on when each matters and when it is noise dressed as insight.

Golf is the one sport on the site without a graded record. Golf previews are published for information only — the company board places no golf reads, so golf does not appear in the graded record on the Pick Tracker. The only golf market Sportslyx prices is the outright winner, and the data behind a preview is recent finishes, made-cut rate, strokes-gained profiles, field strength and the outright prices; the guides say so plainly rather than borrowing the grading language of the team sports.
